A very good friend of mine is a photographer and I invited him over for dinner recently. When he arrived he had his camera with him and we planned to have a family photo taken. As he situated his lights and equipment we talked about how life can resemble a photograph. The photograph you see here is a reflection of that conversation. We discussed what makes a great photograph great and what makes life great. As our conversation continued on we narrowed it down to this:

simplicity

genuine beauty

soulful spirit

soft expression

joyful moments while capturing the image

a photographer who sees art through the lens 

and a little of the unexpected

Recently I was requested to film a promotional video for a SkyRise Fashion event that took place just a few days ago. Little did I know that there was more to this encounter that I initially expected. But I believe that the most unexpected encounters are brought about when we least expect them...I suppose that is why they are the unexpected encounters.

 The CEO of SkyRise Fashion and I had a lunch meeting to discuss our collaboration on her next event. We quickly realized that we recognized each other as kindred spirits. It was as if I was talking to someone I had known my entire life. Comfortable and heart warming...as if I knew we were meeting at just the right time and place to begin working together on this particular event and so many more to come. She explained her vision to me while we enjoyed a delicious lunch alfresco at a local bistro. The sun was shining and exotic guitar music was playing in the background as if someone had placed us on location somewhere in Morocco on a movie set. The afternoon was memorable to say the least. 

Since that day we have continued our collaboration on the plans for future events that are forthcoming...stay tuned they are spectacular and include traveling abroad to several countries to take her concept on the 'International Road' so to say.

This casual lunch meeting has drawn me back to the 

GRACEFUL ENERGY SERIES

and has been a magical reminder of just how important it is to become aware of what resides within your own heart and soul...to continue seeking what brings you joy and that journey will keep you going to help you

Kindred Spirits

Projects With Purpose

New Orleans

One of my dear friends asked me to help her recently with a project. It was in New Orleans rebuilding a neighborhood community center still recovering from the devastation post Katrina. While I was on site helping to rebuild this neighborhood I met so many diverse people from all walks of life. My camera was my constant companion and I was able to capture hundreds of incredible images. Those images will be compiled within a book sometime in the future but for now I would like to introduce you to one of my new friends. His name is Kareem Kennedy and he is the author of Aunt Alice vs Bob Marley...My Education in New Orleans. This fine young man has been able to overcome many of life's harshest obstables. You must read his story and learn more about perseverance and the human spirit. Rather than let his obstacles beat him down he made a choice to jump over them and pursue life to it's fullest. 

I am so very proud to say he is my friend. Everyone need's to have a copy of his book and share it with those you love because I feel it is another way to help you

Loyalty

When the moment is presented to you..a moment you can present your loyalty to someone in need..even when scrutinized by those you love for offering this loyalty..will you stand by your loyalty for what you believe in..and what or who you feel needs and deserves your loyalty? Think about it for a moment. This moment can pass in the blink of an eye..understand what it means to be able to offer your loyalty to someone even when they are at their lowest point in life. Give them your loyalty as long as you feel it is what you can give. Watch them rise up out of their darkness because there was someone who still believed in them and was willing to offer them love and loyalty when no one else would. It can change someones life and offer them an opportunity to begin again when they thought there was no more new beginnings..show them there is a new beginning. It can be through love and understanding that this passion can ignite the very best in you to walk forth even when facing the fire...you can walk over the hot coals and feel no pain. It is faith and love that can help us to move forward and walk over the hot coals on to something more comforting that will not burn our feet. Therefore, we are able to leave fresh footprints in the sand for someone who may be lost and looking for something to follow and they need to see fresh footprints in the sand.

Transition through Anger

Transition through Anger

It seems as though we are flung into anger and then somehow we seem to fly effortlessly out of it...strange mood anger is...it has a crippling grip on our soul and spirit. It actually becomes paralyzing to us because of its powerful control over our emotions. Anger can be so controlling that it leads us down certain paths we weren't planning to encounter. But I believe anger shoves us along with the strength of a giant towering over us. Intimidating our need to be loving, giving and caring about others. Anger can be displayed in front of us as this...the sour bite of what you think is a sweet, succulent apple. When you bite into it the sourness makes your mouth pucker and almost lock up with the sudden bitterness. How is it we let others en flick this emotion upon us...you actually have the choice to allow this emotion into your life or keep it out. 

Anger is like fire...we constantly struggle to put out the flames so as to not let it destroy the things we love by burning them to ashes.

The next time you are confronted by anger whether it is your emotion or someone bringing their anger to you...remember this...it is something that came to me during a meditation almost 7 years ago...it was my inner voice speaking to me which is what happens often when I meditate and have the inspiration to write about the meditation experience...some of my friends have shared this with their friends and it has helped them through their own transition...so call it your quote or mine it doesn't really matter, what does matter is that the inner voice that delivered it to me did so with kindness as to assist me in understanding why anger exists...I'm just blessed by the opportunity to be able to put my pen to paper and translate these beautiful messages that are delivered through me to you ~ helping you to

Lunch in Paris

Lunch in Paris

Recently I was fortunate enough to be traveling and one of the cities on the itinerary was Paris. This photograph was taken by a dear friend of mine while I was on her phone talking to another dear friend who happen to be inside Fouguet's...the restaurant pictured here. She was enjoying a delicious culinary afternoon at this world renowned restaurant...alone. We had a wonderful conversation while she enjoyed her four hour lunch, which was a great indulgence for her. We chatted briefly as I didn't want to occupy her precious time alone enjoying a six course meal topped of by an exquisite glass of Bordeaux. 

She made sure I knew the purpose of her time alone and what the meal meant to her. It wasn't just an ostentatious display of her ability to enjoy such an expensive meal, it was about her hard work to save for this special afternoon. The hard work enabled her to savor every delicious bite and it brought her exactly what she needed, rejuvenation. She said it was feeding her soul and spirit...she went on to say it was inspired by my book 'Quiet Power'...the section titled 'Feed your Soul'.

Discover what feeds your soul and it will help you recognize your pain and fear. Therefore, enable you to discover the tools to overcome fear (and pain, it is the building block for fear) and to understand there is comfort in recognizing the pain. Let's look deeper into the fear first and I ask you, "What feed's your soul?" Some of you can answer this immediately. some of you need to reach deeper into your emotions to find out what it is that feeds your soul.

Your journey may contain a million steps: Your inner journey only has one: The step you are taking right now. As you become more deeply aware of this one step, you realize that it already contains within itself all the other steps as well as the destination. This one step then becomes transformed into an expression of perfection, an act of great beauty and quality. It will have taken you into Being, and the light of Being will shine through it. Finding Your Peace

Peace...It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

As you pass through your daily routine take a moment to find a place that makes you feel calm...that makes you feel serene...a place that feeds your soul. Stay in that serene place and think about all the blessings that surround you. Take a deep breath and know you are loved...you are never alone. This place of serenity will offer you the moments needed to rejuvenate your soul and spirit to carry on even when you think it's impossible you will begin to realize nothing is impossible.
